Homes for Our Troops / Kids for Our Troops cares about protecting the privacy of all visitors to this website and especially children under the age of 13.  Here we explain how HFOT / KFOT collects personally identifiable information (for example, first and last name, home address, email address) on-line from and about children, what we do with that information, and what controls their parents have. HFOT / KFOT may, but is not obligated to, update this Privacy Policy from time to time, so please refer periodically to this page.  If HFOT / KFOT makes any significant or material changes to this Kid's Privacy Policy, users will be notified through a prominently posted announcement on the Kids for Our Troops Website.

What information does HFOT / KFOT collect from and about children?

You are welcome to visit this site without providing any personal information at all. Generally, HFOT / KFOT limits its collection of information from and about children to non-personally identifiable information (e.g., first name, screen name, gender, state and zip code).

From time to time, however, HFOT / KFOT may request certain limited personally identifiable information in order for children to participate in certain types of activities including for example on-line contests, sweepstakes, sending an electronic postcard, participation in KFOT Kid's Troop or receiving an on-line newsletter. HFOT / KFOT never conditions children's participation in any of HFOT / KFOT on-line activities on the disclosure of more information than is reasonably necessary for participation in any activity. Information collected by HFOT / KFOT in connection with such on-line activities may include an email address, date of birth, first and last name, home or physical address including street name and city name, telephone number and/or parent's email address.

Only HFOT / KFOT has access to the personally identifiable information collected from or about children on our Website.

How does HFOT / KFOT use the personally identifiable information it collects on-line from and about children?

We collect a child's date of birth to determine their age. We also collect a child's date of birth, first and last name in order to fulfill the child's participation in HFOT / KFOT Kid's Troop (i.e., a personal on-air birthday announcement using the child's first and last name and age and mailing of a birthday card to their home). Before any personally identifiable information is collected on-line from a child younger than 13 years of age, HFOT / KFOT will obtain adequate parental consent. If HFOT / KFOT does not obtain adequate parental consent, HFOT / KFOT will not use or keep any of the personally identifiable information provided by the child. Please note that parents may consent to the above collection and use without necessarily consenting to the disclosure of personal information to third parties.

How does HFOT / KFOT use cookies?

Cookies are small files that the HFOT / KFOT Website transfers to your computer as it is browsing our Website to help HFOT / KFOT enhance your experience while using our Website. HFOT / KFOT does not share children's personally identifiable information with third parties in any way, shape or form unless directed by law.  HFOT / KFOT may disclose personally identifiable information to third parties in order to comply with the law, court orders or requests by law enforcement agencies, to enforce our Terms of Use or to protect the rights, property or safety of our Website, users of our Website and others.

Parental Consent

Because of federal law, we cannot collect any personal information from a child under the age of thirteen without the consent of that child's parent.

There may be services on the site where parental consent is required. Signing up for our Kids for Our Troops Newsletter or adding any information about yourself or your activities while fundraising for Kids for Our Troops should always be approved by your parent/guardian before posting.

How do Parents access the personally identifiable information collected by HFOT / KFOT?

Parents can review the personally identifiable information that HFOT / KFOT has collected on-line from or about their children, prevent the further use or maintenance of such information, or direct the deletion of their children's personally identifiable information in three ways:
