What Other Kids Have Done to Raise Money and Awareness

West Middle School in Andover, MA Raises $18,850!
The students and staff at this school generated donations by pledging to run a mile. The day before Thanksgiving, they braved the elements (cold, damp, misty 34 degree day) and ran the mile raising a total of $8,850. The kids presented a check to SGT Brian Fountaine of Plymouth, MA in a ceremony at the school. Inspired by the kids efforts, Homes for Our Troops received an additional donation of $10,000!

Six 5th grade students at PS175 Queens in Rego Park , NY created a web site that provides a wealth of information about our armed services and shares their stories about the veterans they met while creating this web site. www.tqnyc.org/NYC063056

Dear Hero Letters

The kids also decided to have a book sale on February 13th. The whole school contributed used books that they had laying around the house. Every class had a chance to purchase books. Each book cost $1.00. When the used book sale was finally finished, we collected all the money made and donated half to the Joseph P. Seluga Garden, and half to Homes for Our Troops.

Thank you to all the kids who participated in this fundraiser! You can be happy and proud to know that your efforts are helping the wounded members of our military have homes to live in which make their life easier.

West Shore Middle School of Milford, CT social studies teacher Thomas Acri and one of his eighth grade classes sponsored a dinner/raffle fund-raiser for Homes For Our Troops.

Thomas Acri chose one of his eighth-grade classes to host the dinner/raffle, who organized the event from sending out letters to setting up tables and chairs to assisting in getting food for diners who needed it, including many veterans. Over 100 people attended the fund-raiser!

"It's shocking that he picked our class," said eighth-grader Matt Boyle. "He only picks one per year for events like this."

"We put a lot of effort into this," said classmate John James. "The veterans look happy."

In addition to the event, each student in the class was also responsible for creating a project display pertaining to some aspect of history.

5th grade students at the Osceola Elementary School in Naples, FL chose to do a community service project where they baked cookies each month and sent them to two units of soldiers in Iraq.  To pay for the ingredients and shipping they held a car wash that raised over $600; as the school year came to an end, they donated the excess funds to Homes for Our Troops.

We thank you for your efforts to help and support our troops!

The fourth grade students at the Joseph Laliberte Elementary School in Raynham, MA, under the direction of their teacher Julie Mitchell,  made and sold flag pins to raise $400 for Homes for Our Troops!

We raffled this quilt at our school in Canton, Massachusetts and raised this money selling the tickets. We have enclosed a picture of the quilt and the students in who worked so diligently on this wonderful project. We love the work that you are doing for our disabled soldiers!

My name is Meredith Scheiring. on Wednesday, June 16th, I had my 9th birthday party. I raised two hundred and twenty dollars for special homes for injured soldiers.
I hope this money helps Homes for our troops be possible.

Yours Sincerely,

Meredith Scheiring

A handmade card with many checks inside was sent by Konor. He wrote in his own handwriting about his birthday party:

Dear John,

Here is 430 dollars for homes for our troops. This is how much money me and my friends raised. The highest amount of money somebody gave us was 75 dollars. I gave up my gifts for the money to give to you.

P.S. I think I have more than enough toys.

Good Luck your friend,

Konor
